Peaks And Troughs

Each time we pass another person, we see them from some position relative to our own. If I'm deep in mind about some technical subject or thinking deeply about a philosophical concept, I may seem hard to read to those looking around to shoot the shit. I don't think the latter is wrong or somehow less because of their perspective, that's not what I'm trying to say at all. It's that we simply can't see each other, so instead of some pleasentry or a fun quip to bridge the gap, an awkard space of silence is returned. A sort of neutralization of our virtually polarized positions. The signal has gone flat, and neither individual has a way of tuning into the other until a broader frequency is shared.

The trade for deep exploring the fringe is solitude over communal warmth, but some of us come to love the solitude just enough to spend more time there, outside of the noise.
